YOUR LIFE A-Z:YARDSTICK

Westcott Wood Yardstick, 36"                         Westcott Wood Yardstick, 36"
YARDSTICK

A YARDSTICK is commonly a flat wooden stick measuring a yard (3 feet) and subdivided by 1/8  or sometimes 1/16 inches throughout its length for measurement.  Sometimes it is easy to get focused on the full yard and forget that every small effort of a 1/8 or 1/16 of an inch helps us achieve our goal.  Thus, when measuring your progress do not allow yourself to slip into an all or nothing mentality.  Don’t focus on your lack of success; focus on the 1/16  inch of success along the way.  Maybe you have not reached the full YARDSTICK of accomplishment but maybe you are 1 and ¾ of the way to the full 36 inches that a YARDSTICK measures.  When we focus on the positive it builds our morale and energy and it becomes easier to say I can do another sixteenth of an inch right now.  Tomorrow I can do a full inch.  Inch-by-inch I will reach my goal.  This is a good time to re-evaluate your success and the definition of your goal.  It is not enough to say I am going to eat healthier.  It is important to have a healthy daily eating plan and then it will be easier to measure the YARDSTICK of your success.  Once one Yard has been accomplished then the YARDSTICK gets moved and your start on the second YARDSTICK.  Interior designers depend on YARDSTICKS to help them furnish a room perfectly.  Think of yourself as the interior designer of your life and focus on the “look” you want to accomplish with the YARDSTICK of your life.

YOUR LIFE. A-Z :JUMP

FUN HELPS US JUMP UP AND DOWNJUMP
I don’t know how old you are, but before you read the rest of this post, get up and jump.  Jump up and down and count to thirty while you are doing it.  If you are physically handicapped and cannot jump, close your eyes and imagine yourself jumping.  Yes, you may become sad or even mad that you can’t physically jump anymore. Therest of us may realize that by the time we get to thirty we are out of breath.  If we don’t use it we do lose it.

Our bodies desperately need our attention.  They need us to help be all that we can be and that won’t happen without movement on our part.  Just like your habits and intentions will not just happen without your attention to helping them become reality.  Action is required in order for anything to get accomplished.  We don’t get dressed without moving our body.  Our bodies are involved in most everything that we do throughout the day. Without it, we are in bad shape.  So jump up and down as an action of attention and commitment to move forward this year.  Nothing is lost.  You can move forward regardless of what the last few days or months have been like if you allow yourself to jump into action of doing what needs to be done to accomplish that which you desire.  JUMP now and get it done. Go back and re-read the word QUICK and start moving quickly toward those INTENTIONS that you so desire.

Your Life A-Z GO

GO! The Sky is Your Limit.

GO

Go is an action word.  Go after it - as in, fetch it from yesterday.  However, did you know that GO is also a game, a very ancient Asian game?   It is a game of black and white round stones with simple rules that allows its players to enter a meditative state of focus.  It is often said that you will not get where you are going unless you focus on where and how to get there.  Where are you going this year?  How are you going to achieve your desired goal?  See, if I had chosen the word "goal" for the first “G” word of the year, you could have easily felt burdened.  “Oh my, do I really have to work so hard at this?”  So, I chose a playful word again.  “Go,” literally means don’t stay.  Move.  Get up.  Change your position.  Go.  Get on your mark, get set, and go!  Go forward now. Take another step toward your goal.

Move Forward with Your YES

You are the most powerful resource that you have. Yes, YOU.

What makes you so powerful. It is not your dreams or even your desires it is the fact that you are the only person who can make a difference in your life. You can listen to self help CDs, watch empowerment videos and read the latest book from well known motivationalist like Wayne Dyer and Deepak Chopra. But until you get off the couch and into life nothing will change without your action. You can have all of the positive thoughts, brilliant affirmations, and dream boards in every room of your house, but until you put your foot in the direction of your dream, your dream is going to sit idle without you.

Once you decide that you are going to make a change in your life then you are the one that most activate the change.

What is that you want to change?

How will it make your life better?

What is the first step toward change?

What is the second step toward change?

After the second step it is good to re-evaluate your direction. Are you still on track? Is this feeling like a positive decision for you? Do you still want this change with all of your heart? What do you do need to do next to move in that direction.

Fear is one of the key culprits of not getting the things out of our life that we want.

Fear of:

Change---if you are successful you will have to change something in your life to accommodate the new you.

Pain---Physical Pain if your YES requires you to stretch you physical limits, emotional pain if it means letting go of someone or something in your life.

Non-approval---Can’t make everyone happy, so focus on YOU.

Failure---So what? What is the worst thing that can happen?
